Association of Florida Colleges Pensacola State College Chapter sponsors Ronald McDonald House Fire Truck Pull

TeamPhoto2013On Saturday, October 12th, the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) Pensacola State College (PSC) Chapter sponsored the annual Ronald McDonald House Fire Truck Pull, known as “Pull for the House.”  The PSC team was composed of athletes from the baseball and basketball teams and AFC member Jack Herndon.  Ed Pate, Instructor in the English & Communications Department, coordinated the event and fundraising effort.  The “Pull for the House” event was held at Seville Quarter on Jefferson Street south of Church Street. Approximately 30 teams comprised of military, first responders, businesses, school groups and more competed to pull a fire truck, weighing approximately 33,800 pounds, 50 feet in the least amount of time.

AFC members raised more than $470.00 for the cost of entry.   Jack Herndon was the lead fundraiser raising more than $250.00.  The overall event was free and open to the public. The weather was fabulous and the event proved to be very successful and enjoyable.  The AFC PSC team won the first heat, but in Heat 2, the Pirates were “bitten by the dogs,” that is, the Southeastern Dog Hunters Association team, who went on to win the Pull.

Proceeds from this event benefited the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida.  The Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families of children who travel to Pensacola to receive medical treatment at an area facility.

A special thank you goes to the PSC Marketing staff who made sure the college banner was onsite and the audio spot and flyer for the event was effective.  Additional appreciation is owed to our coaches and athletes for their time and participation.  Thank you also to all Pensacola State College employees for your outstanding financial support and the great services provided to the Ronald McDonald House.
